Whaling in early New Zealand

A short account of the Whaling days in New Zealand. The oil from the blubber of the Whales was a valuable commodity in those days ,where it was used to light oil lamps as well as to lubricate delicate machinery and watches. The introduction of the motor car oil and petrol, gas lamps and electricity caused a gradual decline in its use. New Zealand ceased commercial whaling in 1964..
