About Eva Rutland

IWP Book Publishers is a family owned book publishing firm. We publish Eva Rutland's books exclusively. The family matriarch, she was born in 1917 and died in 2012. She went blind at age 50 and, after losing her sight became a prolific Harlequin romance writer. She also wrote books about her life growing up in Atlanta, Georgia during segregation and raising her children in the newly integrating west of Sacramento, California during the 1950s and 1960s. She passed away at age 95 and continued to write and promote her books until the end. Her daughter, Ginger Rutland, granddaughter Eva Fields-Schwartz and grandson John Hooper work tirelessly to preserve the memory of this great woman. The company's two major books are "When we Were Colored, A Mother's Story," a memoir originally published in 1964 and "No Crystal Stair, a novel," the fictionalized account of Eva Rutland's life and a sweeping saga of an African American family from World War II to today.

We are currently making chapters from her final book "The Trouble With Being a Mama," available for digital download. We hope you enjoy them
