The 1st installment in a series tracing seven generations of daughters in a single family, as they create a Godly legacy for their descendants. More
Simon and Alyce Hawkes are newly-married and living in Penzance (on the South coast of England). He’s an apprentice in a printer’s shop. One night, Simon sees his employer stealing items from his own shop (to sell and report as stolen to collect the insurance money). But the dishonest owner sees Simon, and since he knows he’s caught, falsely yells, “Stop! Thief!”
Afraid for their freedom, Simon and Alyce flee to America. They arrive in Charleston, and he goes to work for a Bible printer. Through his new employer -- and church -- Simon and Alyce come to know Jesus.
Alyce gives birth to Agnes, and the family grows in love and maturity. But when she’s two years old, Agnes becomes very sick. Simon and Alyce pray, unable to afford the treatment she needs.
One night, they see a prominent town councilman run over a horse with his buggy -- he’s drunk. They learn the next day the councilman denies any knowledge of the accident. He pays them a late-night visit and promises a bribe (enough for Agnes’ medical care) if they keep quiet... and threatens harm will befall them if they speak up.
They struggle with the price of telling the truth -- but end up making the right decision, trusting the Lord to heal little Agnes. And a surprise ending reaffirms their faith . . .
