Unrecognized and unmediated scholastic backwardness can have a lifelong impact and the human and financial costs of academic failure are extremely high affecting almost every sphere of life of a person. In most countries, very little work has been done in understanding of scholastic backwardness despite the increasing recognition of this area as an important one. Thus, this book was drafted to help the parents, teachers as well as family doctors to identify a child with poor school performance, help them know that scholastic achievements are influenced by various factors in the child him/herself as well as factors in home, family and school environment and make them aware that, even if a child has good intellectual ability, he/she may not be able to perform up to his/her potential because of various reasons e.g. emotional, psychological or environmental.
