About Scott Addington

I am on a mission to write short, sharp history books that educate, entertain and inspire children, teenagers and adults who many not read 'traditional' history books very often.

I think we (and by 'we' I mean writers, broadcasters, historians, teachers, editors, journalists, tv producers and parents) have a great opportunity with the centenary of the First World War to educate and inspire our children to become interested in our history and understand what makes us who we are today. I try and write my books in an engaging way to appeal to those people who may have never read a history book before - hopefully after reading one of my books you might read a few more books on your new chosen subject!

My 'Layman's Guides' are perfect introductions to their given subject, I like to say that they are more like an informal chat over a cup of tea/coffee rather than a heavy and dull historical text. Currently I have three Layman's Guides in publication covering The First World War, D-Day and The Third Reich. More are planned including The Second World War, Waterloo and others!

The Great War 100 is my attempt to tell the story of The First World War using nothing but infographics. This is a brand new way of telling history, it has never been done this way before and I hope that this style of communication complex information opens up the subject to many new people - especially children.
