In this work titled Man as the architect of his own destiny, we shall examine the hidden realities that one needs to know in order to arrive at one’s destiny. In it I will explore the hidden powers in Man that aids him towards actualizing his destiny. My major argument is that the greatest tragedy in life is not death, but it is to live without any purpose in life. Whatever you end up becoming in life is what your choices, decisions, actions and hard works, though not unaided by the grace of God, have made you into.
Hence, the emergence of this project is to create and to re-echo the awareness in the lives of those who are not yet aware of their hidden treasures; the path ways to being an architect of one’s destiny. But to actualize this task, however, the existentialism of Martin Heidegger in this work is a clarion call to self-awareness. He talks about man’s potentialities as been so vast and beyond his capability to make an exhaustive use of them. Hence, this work is to provide the required philosophical tonic cum existential condiments necessary for waking the defeated and the nonchalant persons from pessimistic slumber of procrastination. It will also unmask them from the crowd for the architization of their own destinies.
For the sake of precision, clarity and logical sequence, this memoir is compartmentalized into five chapters. The first chapter elucidates the existentialist method of philosophy and some existential terminologies that are adrem to this work. It will also look at the historical survey of existentialism and its philosophical relevance to humanity. In chapter two, the review of related literature will be traced from the ancient period down to the contemporary epoch. Chapter three captures Heidegger’s existentialist philosophy of self-actualization with reference to authenticity and inauthenticity. Man as the architect of his own destiny in the light of Martin Heidegger will be examined in the fourth chapter. Finally, the fifth chapter will be a scholarly critique cum evaluation of the work. Some loopholes in Heidegger’s thought will be pointed out. There will be some recommendations on how to live a life that is characterized by authenticity before the final conclusion is drawn.
