About J. A. Taylor

I was born Janet Ann Taylor on July 7, 1947 in Estill County, KY. My parents moved to Hamilton, OH when I was around three-years-old. In 1965, I graduated from Garfield Sr. High School. My first full-time job was a clerk typist in the purchasing department of The Hamilton Tool Company. I married in 1967 and we had two wonderful children. For the first 10 years of their lives, I was a stay-at-home mother. Divorced and now single, I live in Colonial Beach, Virginia, surrounded by family and close friends, and my spoiled cocker spaniel named Tassie.
When I was 10-years-old, television was in its infancy and innocence and writing became a past-time thing for me. Like any impressionable child, TV opened up a world of romantic heroes with all the qualities of a fairytale prince charming. I wanted to be part of that world so I began writing plays about my favorite shows. As I got older, I took my stories and went in search of an audience who would read and comment on them for me. I found such a person in my 7th grade English teacher. In my high school years, I connected with a friend and we collaborated on a short story together about three teenage girls who met their real-life singing idols, The Beatles. After graduation, came the real world and the business of making a living took precedent.
Time has a way of slipping away. The writing bug bit me again in 1977 when I was a married woman and the mother of two. The kids and I had just seen Han Solo frozen in carbonite and left wondering, what next? So, to pacify my kids, I wrote my version of his rescue. From then on, whenever I had the time, I sat with a typewriter on my lap. A professional typist friend volunteered to re-type my manuscript provided she could read and review it. When she delivered the manuscript a week later, she said she could not stop typing because it so good. However, she gave me this advice: change names, terminology, and make the characters my very own. I took her advice. The storyline changed and I subscribed to a novel writing course through Writer’s Digest in 2000. Under the tutelage of Christie Golden, Isolde’s Initiative took on a life of its own. I received more insight into the use of grammar. After all these years, becoming a published author is a dream come true.
Three things have sustained me through all my trials and heartaches: My faith in God and His Word ... my children ... and writing, which has been my own person and private therapy session.
My life revolves around my service to church and my God through music, namely; playing the piano/keyboard, singing solo and with the church praise team, and signing to recorded songs and praise choruses with American Sign Language.
My favorite outdoor activity is fishing. Just give me a rod and reel, some bait and biting fish, and I will fish all day. I enjoy old classic movies and television programs when the entertainment industry had no graphic violence or vulgar language.
