Ettie truly is a fiercely independent woman, and her journey along the wagon trail to Salt Lake is much what I'd expect after all the pioneer stories I've read over the years. The plot is in some ways predictable but also entertaining and interesting enough to keep the reader going. Her goals and feelings mature and change as a result of the trials and hardships along the trail and the generosity and respect all members of the company show for one another along the way, finally even including Cole's attitude toward Monsieur Cotter. A very enjoyable quick read that leaves a sense of satisfaction upon completion.
