Rated 4.80/5 based on 10 reviews
This is a short story.
The old, abandoned Theine house ... standing alone, seemingly still, so very dark. Whispered stories of nightmares inside. Rumors of a girl’s body in the ditch. The curiosity of those too young to know better than to dare a peek. Shattered innocence. Sacrifices from the purest of loves … the love of a child.

The bonds of childhood, particularly between siblings, can be quite intense. When 2 boys lost their sister, the parents were by no means the only ones who suffered.

Fast forward a couple of years. This resilient family has survived tragedy, and the boys are closer than ever before. Spud is Charlie's shadow as they sneak out one night to investigate a thrilling site near a shunned house.

It's when they get there that things very quickly turn into a gruesome, unthinkable nightmare!

Jerry McKinney has a unique talent for creating characters so genuine you would swear he's lived with and studied each one for at least a year. He's one of the most insightful authors I've ever had the privilege to read.

This may be my favorite Jerry McKinney story. I loved his description of the love between two brothers and how the little brother idolized his older brother. I felt the emotions as Mr. McKinney told me how a family is torn apart by loss and grief. I saw the horror and felt the conflict that Spud had to go through and would have to live with the rest of his life. This book is perfectly named. Another GREAT story by Jerry McKinney!

Tears of Love is the perfect name for this book. I have never in my life felt emotions so strong as I feel when I read the passionate writings of Jerry McKinney. If you have ever had an older sibling that you looked up to and placed on a pedestal then you know how strong that love can be. This story takes you beyond that feeling of love and into the depths of sorrow in your heart knowing that what Spud has to do will be the hardest thing he will ever have to do in his entire life, and he is just a kid...If you only read 1 vampire story in your whole life it should be this one.

The connection between many brothers and sisters is so strong that it can never be broken no matter what happens and that is the premise of this short story and well, is this a good thing? This tight-knit story consists of a family and the bond of love and emotions that are shed and held within that framework.

With Mike & Charles sister missing, a void has been left in the household. One day, Charles spots something outside. Is it Amy? What unleases next is the sister that they never knew. What has happened to her? How tight is that brother and sister connection now? It's the family members who are left in the end who are wondering what happened and who can blame them.

A great story that feels it is told to you and not read. The painful memories expressed by a boy who has lost so much. "Tears Of Love" By Jerry McKinney is a tale that is quick to read but full of character as you listen in on a story told to no one else but you. It has a wide range of emotions that will leave you feeling them all. I am happy I read it!

Review by: Lori R. Lopez on April 2, 2011 :
This tale encompasses elements of family, childhood, and horror; the telling is in the natural voice of a boy who idolizes his big brother and cherishes their simple times together. Then comes an event that changes everything for the siblings as innocence is lost and the horror is introduced into lives already scarred by tragedy. Jerry McKinney's narrative flows like a summer day on the porch with a tall glass of lemonade. "Tears Of Love" is a story worth reading, and will be one to remember! I couldn't help thinking of Stephen King's "The Body" and the film "Stand By Me" that was based on it while reading the first half, for the gentle sense of camaraderie expressed.

Love, loss, youth, smiles, screams, mystery, blood, tears, and much more are the things that McKinney will give you in his story "Tears of Love". Curious, hurt, happy and sad children are living their lives the way they shouldn't, but they have no other choice than to go for that which keeps them together: love.
While you read, you will go through a journey of events that will strike your deepest emotions and thoughts making you wonder about the horror of love and the beauty of horror. Yes, it sounds strange, but if you can't feel the love, then you won't see the imminent need for blood.
Anyone who likes horror should read this story. You will be touched in a way you can't imagine. You will see things, horror to be specific, with an open heart rather than with a scared mind.
Amy, Charles and Mike were always like one. Darkness separates them, and in some way it brings them back together, making them even closer.
Will you be able to digest this plot, actions and reactions? You are to be part of this all.
