Between Two Lands
All my thoughts are written in this short book. I want to help people to believe in themselves, to stand up for what they believe in, and not let people step all over them. Each person is a unique creature, given life by God, and created to serve a purpose. He has molded each and everyone one of us. More
Though He will test us, sometimes placing before us trials that seem insurmountable, He will put us through a trial that we cannot come through. In our lives, God has given us the tools to use to persevere and overcome – friends, our family, our natural talents, and even the places that we love. Understand that while you may fail, you can still come through, you can still learn, and you can still be stronger from your experience.
Ivona Panayotova has come to understand and feel these convictions early in her young life. From her conception to her days now in her beloved Bulgaria, she explores her life, her troubles, and tribulations, and reflects on how these experiences have made her the woman that she is today.
Ivona’s life begins with the controversial marriage of her parents in Varna, Bulgaria. Even though their blood relations were distant, Bulgaria’s strict laws regarding familial marriages required strict paperwork and constant monitoring of Ivona’s mother throughout her pregnancy. This was only the beginning of the paperwork and struggle that would punctuate her young life. Hoping to create a better life for his family, her father insisted upon immigrating to the US. When she was two he left or America, and at the age seven, Ivona joined him there with her mother.
Her life in the US was not easy. Her first experiences in the US were the cold winter days of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, where her family sought to alleviate Ivona’s isolation in the rich Bulgarian community of Chicago, Illinois on the weekends. Life took Ivona and her family across the country, and brought with the moves many other changes. In all of it, she never lost sight of her beloved Bulgaria. After finishing high school, she was finally able to return.
It is from there, her youth behind her, her young adult life ahead of her, that she was finally able to process and understand everything that she had been through. With that understanding, she has penned a memoire of her young life.
