At the Russian base, Vostok, located in the most isolated, coldest spot in Antarctica, a group of scientists are drilling into a recently discovered subterranean lake to test NASA gear destined for use on the Jupiter moon of Europa.
Journalist Samantha Bloodworth had been sent to cover the operations when an underwater volcano exploded, trapping the scientists 3000 feet below the ice with no way to escape.
Sam is now alone and must make her way back to the surface and find help aided only by a small, prototype robot named PEDRO, destined for use on the Space Station.
