I have terminal cancer. Even with today’s advanced medical technology, it is not curable and it will not go into remission. I have discovered how to live my remaining days to the fullest, with real joy. This book provides a template for hope and encouragement, and a path that leads to a joyful and fulfilling life –every day – until the end. I am not suggesting it will be easy, but you can do it! A good read on many levels. It is a great story of a mature family facing cancer with intelligence, caring and love. It is a love story about a 41year marriage in which the husband's first thought is how his wife will live after he is gone. It is a window showing how doctor and patient weigh and balance chemo-therapy. It is a compelling narrative by an accomplished man who found out long before he had cancer what life is all about.
The prose is spare. Well written. Not one word is wasted. As a result, it was difficult to put this down. This author speaks to everyone about choosing the attitude that gives joy and meaning to each day. I am taking to heart his advice to get rid of the annoying people in my life, to lean more on my family, and my faith.
And it should be a must-read for every first year medical student.

I have a family member who also has cholangiocarcinoma. Eric's book was so heartfelt and inspiring. It not only addresses how a patient and family not only cope but grow stronger in the face of adversity, but offers others a reality check of what all should focus on as being important in life. Eric and his family's willingness to share their journey with others is a gift. Should be read by all, but especially by any who are touched by cancer or other disease.

I am fortunate to know (from childhood) both the author and his family.  After learning about his diagnosis, treatment , eventual outcome, and upcoming book, I prepared myself for a sad and depressing read.  And while there was some sadness...the hope, love, and positive message far outweighed those feelings. It really is a blueprint for how we should all live on earth, no matter how much time we have and whether or not we are healthy or living with a terminal illness. While reading this book I continually thought about how to approach challenges and loss in my own life, to keep negative thoughts and people out, and to not sweat the small stuff.  And in the end...what matters most is the love of our creator, family and friends and to ultimately put our lives in God's hands.  -Kristen
