An Aussie Backpacking Londoner 1952-53
This Book is about the 11 months I spent living and working in London during he Coronation Year of 1953 More
An Aussie Backpacking Londoner is the fifth book I have transcribed from my Aussie Backpacking Abroad manuscript. Having had the serendipitous opportunity to be in London during the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth ll in1953. I decided that for the eleven months that I would be living and working in London prior to and after the Coronation, before I went home to Australia, I wanted to live the life of a Londoner. After returning to England in October 1952 from my last, two month, backpacking tour, I quickly found both a job in my trade and full board close by in Parson’s Green in south west London. As well as a working life I wanted to join in the social life of the great city. I saw an advertisement for the Young Conservatives Association (YCA). I enjoyed the informative, social and happy life of being member of the association . Of course the highlight of my time in London was the Coronation and after the Queen had been crowned Ralph and I watched the colourful, long, Coronation procession from a grandstand on the East Carriage Road. At last the time came to leave for home in Australia and in August I left London to make my way down through France and Italy to join the ship home at Naples.
