About Marie Johnston

Marie Johnston was born and raised in the upper Midwest. She continues to live there, enduring frigid winters as a trade-off for smaller bugs, with her husband and four kids. She writes in between her part-time work as a med tech and adjunct instructor for the local community college. Marie hopes to bow out of the lab gracefully and dedicate more time to writing in the near future. Until then, she will continue to sneak to the library to write or greet the crack of dawn with her computer, because nothing attracts kids or an old cat like sitting with an open laptop on the couch.

It's a challenge to review a book like this. On the one hand, it rises above the typical paranormal/shifter romance with an interesting plot, and characters whose well-developed back stories make them sympathetic and real. On the other hand, the writing is flat, plodding, and full of grammatical goofs which seriously detract from the understanding and enjoyment of the story. Better editing would have helped. I'm sufficiently disappointed that I won't read the series.

Great Read! This story was a fun combination of paranormal and romance / light erotical. The plot included an engaging interplay between characters. Connecting a beautiful psychologist with a absolutely gorgeous shifter-wolf was such a good pairing. The characters were well developed and the plot interesting. I highly recommend this book!

What a first book! Really I can't believe this is Marie Johnston's first novel! The flow is well done and the pace is just perfect.

The story of Jace and Cassie is full of intense longing, borderline erotica sex scenes, and tender passion that make this a truly memorable shifter romance novel.

Cassie is a professional psychologist and very good at reading people, except she's unexpectedly dumped by her rather boring fiance and hooks up with hot bartender Jace without knowing that he is a wolf shifter who fully intends her to be his mate. There is some hint to the mystery of her past that may prove to be a bit more exciting and maybe supernatural than she is aware of.

In this first book we are introduced to many characters, including the evil Sigma gang who appear to be led by a madwoman who may be a vampire and something darker. the Guardians are Sigma's natural enemies and are fellow shifters though Jace is not part of the team, being a former convict.

The novel ends just where you want it to and though it is a complete story it fully leaves you wanting more.

I recommend this to paranormal romance lovers, you will not be disappointed!
