A terrible surprise awaits the people vacationing in Cape May County this year, as those soaking in the rays will be forced to turn their attention from tan lines and funnel cake to simply surviving the rest of the week. More
It's that time of the year again, that row of calendar boxes that we all spend months looking forward to. Summer vacation. A chance to escape the daily grind, to relax, unwind, reconnect and get some sun.
For Jeff, those days have always been spent in Cape May, NJ, and this year is no different. At least in that respect. But a terrible surprise awaits those vacationing in Cape May County this year, as those soaking in the rays will be forced to turn their attention from tan lines and funnel cake to simply surviving the rest of the week.

First, this story is set in the beach resort community of Cape May, NJ. If you're familiar with the area you'll have some fun recognizing the area, but you don't have to know the town to enjoy the story. For instance, you'd probably be able to figure out that Beach Avenue runs right along the beach.
There are some broad similarities to Alfred Hitchcock's The Birds -- and the Daphne du Maurier story that the movie was very loosely based on -- but this story goes off in a different direction. There are clues that the birds might be part of something more sinister than nature gone bad. By the end there are real questions about government conspiracies that might, or might not, have gone wrong.
I enjoyed the story. If you have the right sort of sense of humor, it might even make a good "beach read!"
