About Kate Rhoads

I was born Kathryn and called Kathy until my mid thirties when I reinvented myself and changed my name to Kate. I joke with my family about the changes and paraphrase the old saying 'a rose by any other name... has just as many thorns'.
I live with my poet husband of 20 years on a mini-farm, near Emporia, Kansas where I garden, paint, and now write. Family is dear to me. Reading science fiction and apocalyptic tales as well; writing and painting landscapes are my favorite hobbies. I studied Painting and Design at the University of Kansas in my twenties, spent many years as a studio photographer, then as a freelance photographic retouching specialist. Later I returned to college to study nursing at Emporia State College and Newman Division of Nursing then retired from fifteen years of geriatric nursing in 2013.
