About Catherine Gillard

Catherine Gillard lives in Perth, Western Australia.
She was born in the UK and migrated as a 5-pound-pom (half price for children) to Australia in 1973. She is a tutor in creative writing at the University of Western Australia.
In 2016 she was shortlisted for the TAG Hungerford Award for her historical fiction unpublished manuscript about the exile of the Vienna Mozart Boys Choir during WWII in Australia. She has a Masters in Creative Writing, for which she wrote a novel about the consequences of the fertility practice of anonymous donor insemination. She is currently working on an SF novel for a PhD project.

An Arresting Woman is a series of novellas based on the real-life figure of Australia's first police woman. The books explore the challenges of being Australia’s (and the world’s) first policewoman. In 1915 only two women, Lillian Armfield and Maud Rhodes, are successful in becoming the first ever women recruited as police officers. Their brief is to focus on woman and children. On probation for a year, they do this without uniform, gun or powers of arrest.
