Review by: Stephen Metcalfe on April 08, 2015 :
Having read the first book a while back, I must say I was lost in the first few pages while my mind scurried around trying to remember who did what in the first book. There is no waiting around in the beginning - the author assumes you have just finished the first book in the series, and isn't waiting around for you to catch up if you haven't. No sirree, straight into the action here. Don't expect a breather halfway through, either; this roller coaster of a ride doesn't stop until the last page.

I love the author's writing style. It isn't something I can place, either: it just works, and I once again found myself transported to Jet Clarence's world, where demons and magic are real, and the result is well, terrifying. Again I found myself reading long into the night, and don't regret a minute of it.

Watch this author. I seriously hope this isn't just a flash-in-the-pan story, because the world needs more creative writing like this.

Is it possible for somebody to write something fresh and new? It seems that we are constantly being fed, and force-fed, the same regurgitated stories, with similar plots and thin, stereo-typed characters. One sided characters, with whom we can’t truly identify. And always the same basic plot, always one crazy person in the story, one bible-punching lunatic to add flesh to the same monotonous song. One good guy, who starts off downtrodden and washed-out, who suddenly takes on the problems of the world and becomes the hero – he can now do no wrong.
Enter Jet Clarence … trying to find a balance, walking a tightrope, and slipping both ways. At the end of the first book you have already identified with him and some of the other characters … you are hooked on the story but can’t yet work out what is coming next in this deceptive, slippery plot .. and left hanging for the sequel.
By the end of this, the second book, you are closer to some of the truths … I think … You have an even deeper understanding and even more empathy with one or more of the characters. You have alternately been shocked, on the edge of your seat, been horrified and also laughed throughout.
BUT … you are again left hanging for the sequel. And it had better be the goddamn last book … I don’t think I could go through this waiting a third time.
Magical, absorbing, awe-inspiring – are just a few words for this author. His writing style is fresh and unique.
I give him a 9 out of 10. And he only lost one point for making me argue with my husband, who has also read the book. We argued, can you believe it, about our opposing views on the characters? As though they were real people and laughed when we realised we were shouting angrily at each other, about a piece of fiction … a piece of fiction so real, it climbs into your head.

This is the review: from my husband - Matt Matthysen, who finished reading it before I did:-
"A page turner from start to finish. Exciting, fast-paced story line, taking your breath away more often than not. We can only hope that the final book in the series is as good as the first two. The mark of a genius or madman: I will let you decide. I truly enjoyed the book."

This, from a Stephen King fan-atic .. who battles to find other authors he enjoys. I had to FORCE him to read Book 1.
