About me:
Dr. Taipala is an Distinguished Technologist and has been with HP for more than 16 years where he has supported a number of global accounts. Dan’s specialty has been developing solutions to support global deployments for ERP (SAP, Oracle eBusiness), PLM, MES/MOM and cloud based solutions. Dan is also versed in Big Data solutions and technologies.
Dr. Taipala earned an Associate Degree in Data Processing from Mid Michigan Community College, a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Davenport University, and a Master of Science from Central Michigan University in Information Technology Management and Software Engineering. Dr. Taipala’s Ph.D. in Information Systems is from Capella University where his research explored the relationship between IT outsourcing and business and IT strategic alignment. His research also examines the impact of strong relationships between an organization and outsourcing vendors providing the basis for a virtual organization.
Prior to joining HP, Dan had the opportunity to complete foreign assignments visiting both Mexico and the Czech Republic.
In addition, Dr. Taipala is engaged in scholarship and teaching. Dan serves as the Associate Dean of Computer Science for the University of the People, the worlds first tuition free, non-profit, accredited university that provides access to higher education to virtually everyone. As part of this role, Dan has been engaged in developing the Associate of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in computer science that are offered by the University of the People and contributed to the goal of the university to achieve its objective to qualify for and earn accreditation in the United States. The university serves students from across the globe and Dr. Taipala is honored to have had the opportunity to serve the students of the university in the capacities of course developer, instructor, and associate dean since 2009.
