As many people who read my reviews know, I am a homeschooler and consultant for other homeschool instructors looking for new books to bring to their curriculum. This can become difficult when you are looking for something a bit different to add to young adult reading lists. Of course there are great books out there, but sometimes a teen wants to read something that is new and hasn't been rehashed 50 times over. When I was approached to read The Watchers, and the sequel Hidden Fire, I wasn't sure what I would find. Here is what I took from them and my viewpoint for adding them to a young adult reading list.

The books are engaging and grab the reader's attention from the start. The story is very well laid out and suitable for ages 11 and up.

If you are trying to build a lesson plan off your reading list books, then this book would be fairly easy to do that with. An adult could breeze through them easily, create study guides, questions, and book report prompts easily.

If your children like Harry Potter or Mortal Instruments then these books would be ideal to keep them engaged. Think of them as a mix of Once Upon a Time and the Arthurian legends. In fact, I have recommended them to parents who are studying the Arthurian time period and need something that isn't part of the norm to tie into that.

There is a great element of fantasy that doesn't seem too far fetched or hard to follow.

The characters are very detailed and offer a well rounded viewpoint instead of just a 2D view of "oh she's a princess" style writing. These characters become very real and fly off the pages which is amazing to have if your child needs to be taken on a literary ride instead of dragged through it.

I know this may seem like a vague review, but it is very hard to avoid spoilers on these reads. I encourage parents to at least read the first book and encourage their young adult readers to do the same, even if it isn't part of a reading list.

I finished reading the eBook, Hidden Fire: The Watchers Book 2, by Deirdra Eden. The book is a mixture of adventure, growing up, finding yourself, love, and loss.

The book follows Auriella, Lady of Neviah, and her journey to defeating the Shadow Lord, Erebus.
During her journey she is attacked by Shadow Wolves, and rescued by Baby, a white tiger, and his companion, Azrael, another watcher. She also meets Orion, and Korban, who are also watchers, and Immortals. She also catches up with Ruburt, the dwarf, and meets his wife, Pearl, and his daughter, Kassi. Kassi is named after the pixie, Cassi, which we learn took off after Ruburt married Pearl.

The author makes you fall in love with Auriella, and her friends. I enjoyed the relationship between Azrael and his animal companion, Baby. There were comical times, and some intense times. I like how the author pulled at all your emotions.

The Watchers Book 2: Hidden Fire (ebook) Product Review

First off before you read this book you want to read the first book called Knight Of Light of the Watchers Book Series. The book Hidden Fire is a great second book for the Watchers series. The twist and turns in the book keeps you on the edge of your seat. The beginning jumps right into the vivid story. I do believe this book is default for the older teens and and up with how detailed and in-depth this story gets. As you read you fall deeper into the world as of you are right there experiencing some part of the book. I could sit down and read this book for hours without stopping. I can also read this book over and over because it's that good. If are into mystery and adventure then this book is for you.

Deirdra you have out done yourself, yet again! I haven't been hooked on a series in a very long time, as much as I am with this one. To be able to read a story and really feel everything that the character is feeling is just amazing. I just love reading a book and getting lost in it. The romance is undeniable and feels so real, like your living in the moment with Auriella. It's defiantly a cant put down kinda book just like the first one!

Ms. Deirdra Eden has done it again with part 2 of The Watchers trilogy. I was able to read the ebook version for my honest review. As life went on for Aurella, I could sense everything she felt. The setting, emotions and the strong connection with Azrael. Just to name a few of the main characters. This is a book that I could not stop reading. I am anticipating the next saga/continuation. If you are into fantasy, knights, love, demons, then The Watchers Hidden light is for you. If you are even undecided, give this book a chance. You will NOT be disappointed.

Since I enjoyed the first book so much I agreed to read the second one too. Guess what it DID NOT disappoint. The story continues with Auriella and she is getting stronger and still facing challenges. She shows that perserverence and determination can push you through when others try to push you down.*I received this product at a discount to try in exchange for a honest and unbiased review

No spoilers in my review

In the first book, Auriella is a scared, uneducated, orphaned child, who goes on a roller coaster journey ending in her being knighted by the King. With her now protecting the castle, you would think that things would be easier for her right? Wrong.

The good King dies, and his son has no faith in Auriella's stories about these Shadow Lords or the Legion. Her powers are an annoyance and no one believes she is killing enemies almost daily. She almost dies when a new hero enters into the story. A few past characters enter into the story, and some changes have happened in their lives. I do not want to spoil this story since I ended up reading this in a couple of days because I enjoyed it so much.

The ending leaves you happy, knowing there is for sure a third book in the series, which I really do hope comes out quickly.

I received this e-book in exchange for my honest review, which I did not write until I had read the entire story.

**No Spoilers**
Our knighted Auriella is now in charge of protecting England from the Shadow Legion. The story starts off with a battle between Auriella and a Shadow Lord right from the start and the excitement continues till the last page. The second book of The Watcher's series is fast paced and really fills in many of the gaps from the first book and our heroine learns more about herself and the world she is from. She discovers more of her powers and learns how to use them with the help form a very interesting man that rescues her. There is a romance blossoming along with all the action and suspense. This series is exciting and a wonderful collaboration of fantasy and historic realism. This is a wonderful original story that leaves you wanting more! I am waiting patiently for book 3 since I started reading this story and could not put it down and ended up finishing it in less than 23 hours.

In this book Auriella has grown up and is now a royal protector from the shadow legions invasions. She also is learning how to use another newfound power called starfire. I found from the time I started reading it, it was very difficult to put down! I really enjoyed the suspense, action and the unfolding love story. I feel it is a great book for teenagers and adults looking to escape reality for a little while :-). The end leaves you wondering and wanting more, looking forward to the next book in the series.

Review by: DIANA REYNOLDS on Jan. 04, 2016 :
This book had me even more engaged than the first. The second book was geared a little more for adults even though the heroine is a 19 year old. It was hard for me to put the book down once I started reading it.

Auriella is still fighting the Shadow Lords who are after her blood and ultimately her power. Not only is she discovering more about herself, she is trying to gain acknowledgement and respect shown mainly to men. She is still working through the loss of her fiance years prior and has no desire to open herself up to suiters.

Even through all of the action, threats, tension and drama, there are still many moments of humor throughout the story. I was continuously intrigued as I followed Auriella discover that she was capable of an even greater power by merging her energy and power with a complimentary set of powers found in one of her own people.

I read one reviewers comment about how predictable the story was. I didn't find that to be the case at all. I predicted one thing, but the unfolding of that event was still action-packed and exciting. The ending tells me there's another book in the works and I can't wait!

Deirdra Eden has created a world I am able to get lost into. This book manages to equal if not the best the first one of the series. However this book after learning her amazing writing style from the first I was able to predict or see the way this one will end. Which with most books would put me into skimming mode but with this world Deirdra Eden has created I still read thoroughly trying to pick up the nuances of this world. I find the the writing and to be incredibly making me want to join the journey with these characters. For me it became more about the journey then the ending which in some way encages a reader so much more. I will be reading the third book and so I recommended this one as well. Enjoy the read and maybe you can figure out the ending is it right you won’t know till your lost in the story and finish the last page. Happy reading!

The minute I received this ebook, I was reading, and I spent the entire day on my Kindle. My family could all see to leave me alone, ha ha!

In the first book, I felt like some things were a bit scattered, but I assumed that was a little bit of the author setting the stage. That was not an issue at all with book 2, and I loved every minute of it! In fact, I am anxiously waiting to get my hands on book 3. :)

One of my favorite things about this book 2 are the new characters that are introduced. I really loved getting to know them and following Auriella's journey. Seriously, I recommend it!! 5 Stars!

This is the second book I have read in the Watchers series, and definitely my favourite. It has been six years since we were first introduced to Aurellia, an orphan with brilliant powers and secrets even unbeknown to her. She has come a long way in that time, and has now been given the job by the King to protect England against attacks by the Shadow Legion. She is ridiculed for her position, as she "will never attract a husband wearing a sword". She is sent on a mission to kill the King of Scotland and is hurtled into a journey of danger from enemies of her past. She discovers a new power, and a kindred spirt in Azrael, a fighting partner from her past, who provides a worthy love interest. Aurellia is a strong character who shows much courage, and is dedicated to ending the war of light against darkness. Along the way, secrets are revealed, much blood is shed, and Aurellia is forced to choose between an old face from her past, and the man she meets while on her quest.
I found the narrative entertaining, and skewed towards an older audience than the first book, with more fight scenes and romance. I would definitely be interested in reading the next book in the series as Aurellia's life is never dull!

Auriella continues her fight against Erebus and the shadow legion as the watcher of London under King Edwards rule. Whilst trying to negotiate peace between England and Scotland she meets Azrael and other watchers from Neviah. During this journey she learns more about her true origins. During this book I read one of the best takes on peace which was "Peace is not an end goal you achieve when everything is perfect in the world. It's something you claim when everything is perfect in your heart" . I can't wait for the next book

Review by: Tash on Aug. 05, 2015 :
The second book in The Watchers series is just as jammed full of adventure and love as the first. Auriella once again finds herself in an unhappy environment as the English protector, having to run away from shadows and leaping for her life in to a fast flowing river. The heroine discovers even more about herself as she finds, loses and finds love again, you think you know where it is going, but the way that the author Deirdra Eden gets you there is exciting. Although there are many new characters, there are returns of some old favourites... some in less exciting forms than others. This book is a great carry on of The Watchers series, however I think it would be a good stand alone read too.

This second book in The Watchers series was very good, but also quite predictable. Usually when I am able to predict what is going to happen early on, I lose interest. This was certainly not the case for this one. I loved the writing and, though I was pretty sure I knew what the end result would be (and turned out to be dead-on), I was able to completely enjoy the journey. That rarely happens for me, so I was pleased with the book. I still want to read more of the series, as it comes out, so it is definitely on my recommend list!

I loved this book even more than the first.

Once again I am swept away into the world Deirdra has created. I think I enjoyed this book just as much as the first.

Hidden fire takes place a few years after night of light. Auriella is working away at keeping the people of England safe from the shadow legion. Even though her work is unappreciated and often the joke of the town she keeps her promise as the countries Watcher until she is forced into a mission that changes her whole perspective of what she needs to do to save not only the people of England but the whole human race.

On her travels Auriella meets some new neviahan companions, Orion an earth wielding neviahan, Korban with his ability to wield any weapon and the breath taking Azrael and his loveable but fierce tiger Baby.
Can their combined strength be enough to defeat The terrifying shadow legion leader or will they need something more.
I love the new characters, Deirdra has done another fantastic job at creating characters you will love, some you will hate and some that have been brought back to stir up all sorts of emotions in Auriella.

I received these books to review now I can't wait for the rest of the series!

This is the second installment to Eden's The Watchers series and I loved it more than the first. It has been a while since I was able to finish two books in four days (especially with to very active kids!) but I did. I could not put these down. Even with some of the plot being predictable it was still highly entertaining. Eden did her research about "olde" England and added a fantasy flair. Hidden Fire was even more enthralling than the first and I am hoping the third will arrive soon!

Review by: Anna Tan on June 22, 2015 :
At 19, Lady Auriella is the Watcher of England and she's beginning to feel like a miserable failure. The newly-crowned King Edward doesn't believe in the Shadows and publicly mocks her position whilst trying to find her a suitable husband. Her world falls further apart when she's sent to assassinate the King of Scotland.

Her journey is fraught with danger - not just from the Shadow Legions and ghosts from the past, but from the strange Watchers she meets on the road and the one handsome Scottish Watcher who keeps trying to steal her heart and her hand.

Hidden Fire is a fascinating read - for younger readers. Personally, I felt that it lacked a little bit of polish and refinement which would have made it a better story. As it was some of the plot "twists" were pretty much predictable. It makes light reading for older teens and adults who are trying to be young.
