The Ritch Grissom Memorial Wetlands, or the Viera Wetlands, are recognized worldwide as one of Central Florida’s premier eco-tourism destinations. On an average day, visitors can routinely expect to spot many species of birds, plus alligators, freshwater turtles, deer, and an occasional otter. During 2014, approximately 170,000 visitors passed through the main entrance to the constructed treatment wetland system, drawn by the site’s breathtaking views and stunning abundance of wildlife. While functioning as a healthy, productive, and effective polishing system for water reuse, the wetlands support a biologically diverse ecosystem. They afford visitors a wonderful, close-up opportunity to view Brevard County’s native wildlife and vegetation. This guide will help you identify birds in the Viera Wetlands.
