Review by: Elizabeth Jolley on Jan. 04, 2016 :
I loved this book, actually a 7-year diary of life as a newly-retired man, living in a small town or village in England with his beloved wife. John's diary entries are written straightforwardly, with tales of beekeeping, gardening & harvesting, shopping, house maintenance, and throughout all, many, many visits with family and friends. It is easy to feel as if you could walk into the house & join in on one of the conversations, because the writing is warm & inviting. I was sad to finish this book, especially as the ending is both sad and heart-warming at the same time. Thank-you, Robert Banfield, for transposing your father's writing and for sharing it with us :-)
