A poignant study of struggle and despair. Jamie and Chrissy are losers. Jamie even has an imaginary cockroach, Stan, as his alter ego.
I couldn't help feeling for them though...their helplessness, and the hopelessness of their lives. It all has broad appeal for anyone who has ever experienced loneliness, underscoring that most basic of all human needs, companionship and connectivity. Watching them trudge through life, bouncing off each other, you hope Jamie and Chrissy will finally embrace and help each other.
Compelling and clearly defined personalities who come alive and stay with you. A smooth, easy read, as well.
