Reviews of Sunrise Ridge by Shirleen Davies

H. D. Gilbert reviewed on May 25, 2015

In Shirley Davies’s third installment in her ‘Redemption Mountain Series’ just might be my favorite of the lot. “Sunrise Ridge” brings the local blacksmith, Noah Brandt, to the fore. We saw him in the previous novels as a background character – and intriguing one, now we learn his story.
Though fiction, Davies’s has a way of creating a realistic landscape speckled with moments that reflect honest emotion and the conflict that can arise in day to day life, as well as the more complicated situations that make for a great novel.
Noah has always had a thing for Abigail Tolbert, daughter of a well to do local cattle family, feelings that Abigail has long returned. When Noah fails to take action or make his own affections known, Abigail takes matters into her own hands when they meet at a wedding. Unfortunately, her father sees the event and considering the time – promptly intervenes and sends Abigail far away to protect her. This sets up a hard beginning to the kind of romance that will charm you.

She has done it again and, this time, I don't think she can top herself! With Sunrise Ridge, Shirleen Davies has created a book so realistic, so thought provoking and so full of attention grabbing twists that the reader can't help but call in sick for work, put on a pot of tea and read it cover to cover until they have gotten their fill of the author's mastery.
Here is a quote from the author's bio that I thought I would share here as it relates so well to Sunrise Ridge: "But her real passion is writing emotionally charged stories of flawed people who find redemption through love and acceptance." This quote describes Sunrise Ridge perfectly! NO other author can speak to the reader through her characters as well as she can and it really helps you understand them, where they came from and what the Old West holds for them in the future. Buy this book, sit down and read it and you will see why she always receives glowing reviews for her books.

As historical westerns go, not many of them have a plot that can keep my attention for more than a couple of chapters. It's not that I don't like historical western romances, but many of them just plain miss the mark. I think that is why I like Shirleen Davies' style of writing so much; she can tell a story and do it so well that the reader feels like they are there and can relate to the characters. Sunrise Ridge is one such story and one of her best to date. Noah and Abigail are two characters that are so well developed, many times during the story I had to stop and remember that they weren't real. The author is that good at bringing her characters to life!
The setting is perfect, the story line is excellent and there is even a twist thrown in for good measure! In this reader's opinion, this is one of her best and will go down as the focal point of her Redemption Mountain series.

'Sunrise Ridge' follows Noah and Abby as their love for each other is put to the test against challenging odds and different social statuses. Abby is overprotected by her father, King Tolbert, and Noah is quickly discouraged from pursuing her as his pride holds him back. Fate, however, has a plan set in motion for them when cattle rustlers start to stir up trouble.

Abby is a wonderful character to follow, as she is independent, determined and brave. Noah is stubborn and reluctant to show his feelings for her, yet she is strong enough to bring his true self to the surface. Shirleen Davies really brings to life the western era with believable dialogue, complex characters and a realistic world that you will not want to leave.

Shirleen Davies has become one of my favorite authors. Her books are old fashioned western romances and each one is an amazing adventure. She is so passionate and has such a sweet soul. I loved this one and enjoyed my journey that it took me on. Noah and Abby is a delightful couple, who fight for the love and passion they share. The obstacles in their way are hard, from different back grounds and not everyone wants them to be together. Will they over come it all and live happily ever after. Read the book and find out. The detailing is stunning and made me feel like I was right there. It is written beautifully and an absolute joy to read. I hated to see it end and as always I want more. I give it my highest recommendation; it is a wonderful read, as are all of Shirleen's books. You will become hooked on her too
