This book was amazing! I'm not a really big reader, but this continually drew me in and made me want to keep reading. There was always something exciting happening that made me want to find out what was going to happen next. Although I would often tell myself I was only going to read 1 more chapter at the time, I found myself reading 2 or 3 or even more before finally being able to put it down. I can't wait to read even more books by Jennifer Park!

Felt a bit like a Korean Charles Dickens novel, but it held my interest all the way through. Worth the read.

As a Korean drama fan, I really enjoyed this novel, but I think it is quite accessible to other readers as well. I was intrigued from the very first page and wanted to see where the author was going. The charcter Min Sang was fascinating and l could totally see him as the hero of a Korean drama. In fact I think the novel would adapt very well to a tv production. Actually I would have liked to see even more of the relationship between the two main characters. The book is very well written too.

"Typical" story of power, love, intimacy, and freedom. However, Ms. Park manages to capture human complexity, which is refreshing in comparison to the immense popularity of over-simplified characters.

Love comes in many forms. This book is about a love so dedicated that unfaithfulness, greed, selfishness and death can't extinguish it.

This isn’t the genre that I usually read or enjoy. So I was very surprised in how it quickly drew me in and captivated me. This story is intense. I fished it in the spare moments of my busy days. Each time I was required put it down I was filled with anticipation. I do like the way the author rendered a vivid picture of the characters and I like Ms. Park’s style and language use.
I can’t say that I got through this book without tearing up, and it made me laugh, but the overarching adjective for this book intense.
