Vanessa J. Horn lives in Havant, Hampshire and has been writing since 2012, when she took a sabbatical year out from her teaching career. She now alternates her working days between teaching and writing, which is the ideal situation, in her view.
She has been published in literary magazines such as Bella Mused and has won short story competitions including Word Hut, Cazart, Berkhamsted and Thynks Publications.
She enjoys playing piano and flute and has a degree from the Royal College of Music in London. Two of the stories in the collection reflect on how music can shape or define a character’s life, sometimes to detrimental effect. She also loves going to the theatre and cinema with friends and family, and investigating new cafes for coffee and cake.
Most of the inspirations for Vanessa’s stories come from everyday situations and scenarios that she encounters and experiences, often retold with a large helping of artistic licence, particularly those dealing with the afterlife! She is a self-confessed people watcher; she is interested in what motivates and impels people to do what they do, especially when those actions are bound to have far-reaching or even devastating consequences. The ‘what ifs’ of life interest her enormously and form a basis of many of the stories in this collection.
