Review by: Kevin A. Lyons on June 23, 2015 :
A good mystery in an unusual setting with unique characters.

A small tribe of Neandertals is barely surviving in a harsh environment. The large game animals they depend on for food are growing scarce and the ice sheets of their old legends seem to be returning. At the worst possible time their wise leader dies -- apparently murdered.

The murder story played out well, with plenty of suspects and motives. The environment is very well drawn and well researched. The conclusion, when it was reached, seemed logical but a bit abrupt. I give four stars for the story.

I will admit that I had some trouble with some of the underlying assumptions of the story. The geographic setting, cultural development, and even personal capabilities of the Neandertal tribes in this story are all pretty far leaps from what modern science can support. If you can accept this environment, you'll enjoy the story.
