This novel by Jack Leathem cleverly intertwines the past with the present day, using historic events. More
A number of Irishmen who fought alongside Oliver Cromwell acquired land from the slain Magennis brothers in 1649 after the battle of Clonmel, in which Cromwell had sought to destroy the Irish who had been loyal to the beheaded King Charles I. Before Conor Magennis was executed he put a curse on the Irishmen who had benefited from the land of the Magennis clan.
History collides with the present day when Joe Dawson, the direct descendant of one man who managed to ward off the curse is finally captured by the brothers. Joe's twelve year old cousin Michael and Michael's friend Squirt are unwittingly drawn into a terrifying underworld in order to rescue him. Demonic underworlds aside, Michael and his parents are still coming to terms with a family tragedy whilst bruised and battered Squirt has run away from home.
