A More Personal Biography

I was born in a small town in southeastern Iowa, but spent most of my childhood growing up in an even smaller town in Minnesota called Blue Earth. Growing up in a town was a unique experience that I will always cherish. At the same time, it put me into a box that I’ve tried desperately to escape. When everyone thinks they know you, it’s hard to develop into something different.
I escaped as soon as I could once I turned 18. Although I had dreamed of being a writer in high school, I never believed I could do it. Instead I started searching for what I wanted to do:

I was a nanny for five weeks on Long Island, New York
Went to college in St. Paul, Minnesota for one quarter before dropping out.

Attended the Tom Rose School for Dog Trainers but didn’t graduate.

Worked at a Holiday Inn in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Went back to college, this time to an all-girls school in St. Paul. During college I worked at another Holiday Inn, then at the Minnesota Zoo, followed by a pet store.
Quit college and went to work at the Mall of America.
Moved from Minnesota to Middle Tennessee to go back to school.

Attended MTSU. Graduated this time with a B.A. in English and a teaching certificate.

Worked at Riverdale High School as an English Teacher for one year.

Went back to MTSU to get a master’s degree and certification in special education.

Worked for two years at Blackman High School as a Special Education teacher.

I left Blackman to become an ADHD coach.

I moved to Chicago, Illinois, to teach at the University of Chicago’s Orthogenic School.

Transferred to Downers Grove North High School where I taught for two years.

It wasn’t until I had done all of this that I finally decided to pursue my dream of writing. While some might look at that list and consider me flighty, I don’t. I love the experiences I’ve had and am glad I didn’t settle for something that didn’t motivate or inspire me.

Living life as a full-time writer has not been easy, I’ll admit. Rejection is the name of the game in the writing business. But it has taught me a lot about myself and has made me a stronger person. I currently live in Middle Tennessee, but am looking to move to the East Coast to be closer to my family.

As a writer, I’ve written a lot of articles for Internet sites like Garden Guides and eHow. Most of my articles are published under the name Darcy Logan.
