First things first, if you haven't read the first three books in this series, do yourself a HUGE favor and read them first. You will appreciate everything about this book after reading the first three. You will understand the frustrations, anger, love, excitement and twists and turns that Donovan has had to endure to get where he is in “A Gentleman's Fate”. You will understand why Scarlett Montgomery is so very important to Donovan and how they go to this point. AJ Linn is a master at mind games and playing with your heart. So buckle up for the ride, it is one worth taking.

That being said, I have waited patiently for this book, for AJ Linn to share with us the fate of Donovan Hart and Scarlett Montgomery. We last saw Donovan and Scarlett on the balcony of their hotel in Venice, Italy having some…”fun” is a nice way to put it, as they entertained the tourists below. *smirks* You see, Scarlett woke up in a rather foul mood, must have been the bad dream about Ricardo, but Donovan was determined to rid her of that attitude. I would say he did. I would say he left them BOTH in a better mood, and some tourists below on the sidewalk too.

Do you remember the phone call Donovan made to the travel agent during breakfast? Well…that is where “A Gentleman’s Fate” begins. With those secretive plans he made for Scarlett. But you know how Scarlett hates waiting for surprises.

“A Gentleman’s Fate” begins in Venice, Italy, where Donovan has taken Scarlett to have some time alone, a vacation of sorts. He also drops the idea on her that he would like to live in Venice someday, after retiring. He and Scarlett are ready to embark on a new chapter of their life as she just asked him to marry her, again, sort of. Donovan, the ever romantic at heart would do ANYTHING for this girl, his girl, the one he believes to be his unico vero amore, his one true love. All Donovan wants is a love like his parents had. Is that too much to ask for? Will he find it in Scarlett though? Is there another for him?

So Donovan made some “plans” but as the night progresses he realizes he might want to cancel those plans, based on the way Scarlett is acting. But Scarlett has a different idea. She wants to see her surprise, and when she gets to the destination and sees what Donovan had arranged, well, you might be shocked by her reaction. I won’t give it away. Warning: roller coaster ride, buckle up, here we go.

The story plays out from there. How did Scarlett react when she found out what plans Donovan made? He should have trusted his gut and taken her back to the hotel room. But…was this all in his destino, in his destiny? Tighten those seatbelts.

Some characters from the previous books are still central to Donavan’s life like Jared, Lily, Reggie, Dawn and his father, Bruce. In this book we learn more about Bruce and see a different side to him. As he has emerged from the rock he crawled under, thanks to Shari, he returns in a much stronger frame of mind and determined to get back to the living. He thinks it is time to visit LaFuga and get back to work. Yes, panic should be setting in right now. If you read the first three books you know that the LaFuga Hotel and The Underground are on the same property and when Bruce decides to tour the hotel and see what Donovan has made of the place, well, hold on tight. Welcome to the Underground… That’s all I need to say because the roller coaster is taking a dive.

So Donovan is left with the aftermath of his father and the tour of the property that they take together. I will not spoil any of that for the reader, it is written too well to give it away. But you know how hot headed Donovan can be, right? The apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. And remember HOW Shari met Donovan? Yep, Pandora’s box about to be opened?

While Donovan has Scarlett and his dad to contend with, thank God he has Patrice who always bails him out and she might be the only person he CAN count on. She is like the seatbelt on this ride. She is dependable and always there. At times they act like brother and sister and at times I wonder could they ever find themselves as lovers. It is refreshing that Donovan can be himself with Patrice, confide in her and rely on her, share a cookie and grilled cheese with her. Their dialogue is hysterical, I find myself laughing at the two of them when they interact, especially when Patrice is snarky and Donovan tries to push her buttons which he does so well in this book. Sometimes the sentences are only one or two words, like “asshole” and “I know” but it cracks me up to read their dialogue.

Donovan is a strong character and so well written. He is predicable at times because he is a man in love, willing to do anything for his girl. Unpredictable at times because he is human and feels pain and rejection as well. You cheer for him and Scarlett and you want to see them win in the end. Hasn’t he lost enough when he lost his mother? He has stood by Scarlett time and time again because he believes she is his unico vero amore but destino might not agree with him. Or does it? Only AJ Linn can tell.

AJ Linn has written another amazing book. I found myself on the streets of Venice watching Scarlett and Donovan walk by, or at the diner watching Donovan and Patrice have Key Lime Pie. His writing is so rich and inviting that I can FEEL the story, the emotions and the raw hurt sometimes. I find my heartbeat racing and my palms sweating waiting for certain words to appear on the page, and sometimes they don’t. The rollercoaster takes another turn or dip.

“A Gentleman’s Fate” left me wondering SO many things, having so many questions which means there are many doors open for more stories about Donovan and Scarlett. I can’t wait to see where the next story takes us.

WOW. Stunned. Speechless. Breathless. World Rocked…

It takes an extraordinary story – in every detail – to reduce me to monosyllables. But here I sit, having just finished A Gentleman’s Fate, and author AJ Linn has left me at a total loss for words. In A Gentleman’s Fate, the fourth and ‘final’ installment of the Gentleman’s Series, Donovan Hart’s relentless search to find and keep his unico vero amoré – his one true love – grabs you by the heartstrings and will not let you go.

If you’ve read the other three books in the series and think you know what to expect this time around – you should know better. Donovan’s story has been unpredictable from start to finish, and this time AJ Linn pulls out all the stops, delivering a series of twists and turns that will keep you guessing – literally on the edge of your seat – until the very end. When you think you can finally relax – don’t. If you think you know how Donovan and Scarlett’s story is “destined” to play out – think again. Once you sit down to read it – don’t plan to do anything else; you won’t be able to stop – the story will pull you back, breathless, hoping for the best, fearing for the worst, and then delivering the shock of a lifetime – you will never see it coming so don’t even try. Just stop reading this review, one-click the buying link, and find out for yourself. The answers are all there – and they are truly unforgettable. This is a story I will read time and time again – yes, it’s that good.

AJ Linn’s writing style has always impressed me. It’s clean, crisp, direct, real and completely relatable. It’s funny, honest, thoughtful, and sometimes utterly heartbreaking. There are no wasted words – ever. His characters – all of them – feel like family. The banter between them is hilarious when it should be and tender when it needs to be, without going overboard in either direction. The story is incredibly erotic one minute, suspenseful the next – but woven throughout is a sense of hopefulness that all of these wonderful characters will get the happy-ever-after they deserve.

It is this consistent, restrained storytelling quality that draws you in and keeps you engaged at every turn. The theme of the series is one we can all relate to. The uniquely human need to discover our destiny, to realize the future we hope for – coupled with the inescapable reality that we cannot predict or control what lies around the next turn – makes Donovan’s journey one that we all share. His hopes are our own. His failures are our own. His fears are our own. We feel his sense of optimism, his hopes and dreams, his determination, frustration, anger, guilt, and his amazing capacity to love. In the closing chapters we see how all of the events of his past have led him full circle – and yet I still want more. I selfishly hope to see Donovan again, because I feel that I wasn’t ready to let him go, and I’ve had to say goodbye to him far too soon. In my book, he ranks right up there with Christian and Gabriel as a character I will never get enough of – or stop thinking about.

A Gentleman’s Fate is an absolute triumph. If you haven’t had the pleasure of reading this series, wait no longer. You are in for a memorable journey that will fill your heart with love and longing, and leave you begging for more. AJ Linn has established himself with a unique voice and storytelling style that makes me willing to wait for wherever he takes us next – because I know I have found a writer that has made me a lifelong fan.

Another 5 star read. How does AJ Linn continue to do this?
When I read his first book, A Gentleman's Affair. I fell in love with Donovan and the other character's Mr. Linn had created. A Gentleman's Secret and A Gentleman's Memoir were no exceptions. He's sent my emotions reeling with these books of his, which has often taken me days to recover from. I wish I was joking, but I'm not.

When I was given the honor of reading A Gentleman's Fate, I knew I was going to love it. I couldn't wait to read it. I couldn't wait to see what twists and turns he would throw into the mix of laughs and tears. I was not disappointed. However, I will admit, even I wasn't prepared for this book. I wasn't prepared for AJ Linn to hold no punches and just hit us with everything at once. The title of the book should be a hint as to what lies between the covers. There were ups and downs, but the intensity of the words on those pages left me shocked, stunned, a bit numb and feeling like I wanted to cry. I felt as if I had watched a friend going through more than his share of challenging times and I was left emotionally drained from it. I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT!

Throughout the book, I found myself thinking about things that had happened in Donovan's life (from the other books) and I couldn't help but wonder if those moments hadn't all lead up to this moment in time.

If you’ve had the opportunity to read the other books, then you know how Donovan Hart is and you know who he is. He’s a, thirty-something, bachelor who took a neglected hotel, his father dumped on him, and turned it into a successful business. He’s had tragedy in his life and has had to work through it alone, without his father’s shoulder to lean on. He’s been a playboy, he has a taste for debauchery and he’s lived his life the way he has chosen because he’s earned that right...but he grows tired of one night stands and longs for a love like his parents had. After some disastrous, yet often hilarious dates, he meets her, Scarlett. Could she be his one true love, his unico vero amore? As with any relationship, they have their ups and downs and we find ourselves wondering if they are meant to be together, if love really does conquer all, and if she really is the one.

In A Gentleman's Fate, we find out who will stand by his side when the chips are down and who will let him down, when he least expects it. It has all lead up to this book and yes, we also finally learn what is really written in the stars for Donovan and Scarlett. In the end, will he have his happily ever after, or will he find himself alone? I'm not telling you. You will just have to read the book to find out.
