About Carla Reighard

Carla, a native of Colorado, grew up in the boondocks among more animals than humans. Her imagination began weaving tales before she could write. As an adult, she created a book as a gift for her niece, Elle. This was the birth of Elle’s Magical Shoes, and her dream to become a published author.

Carla still lives in Colorado with her husband and cat, Hobbes. She has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and worked six years as a third grade teacher. When she isn't at her current job as an administrative coordinator, she looks for opportunities to pursue her passions: writing and traveling.

Review by: Dawn Reed on July 08, 2015 :
"Elle’s Magical Shoes" is an enjoyable book. It incorporates many themes: generosity, friendship, family, and forgiveness to name just a few.

The author effectively weaves Elle’s story, which occurs in the real world, with a story occurring in the fairy world. Although the stories are linked from early in the book, I didn’t fully anticipate the way she brought them together in the conclusion.

I teach 4th and 5th graders. "Elle’s Magical Shoes" will delight girls of upper elementary age. Children could read it independently, but it is also a book that parents and children could read together allowing it to spark some interesting discussions.

This was a strong debut. I look forward to future books from this author.
