Rated 5.00/5 based on 21 reviews
This previously unpublished Marcus Wynne novel was written before the tragic events of 9/11. Based on Wynne's experiences as an Air Marshal, this chilling thriller offers an insider's perspective into aviation security and terrorism that remains relevant today. Very immersive. The book handles the parts without action well, and the hotel scenes manage not to be boring, which is quite an accomplishment. The pacing was excellent.

Marcus's fan base has known of the existence of this "lost work" for years, and it's great to be able to read it at last. It does not disappoint, both in its action scenes and its descriptions of bureaucratic in-fighting, deadly as a car bomb or a knife-fight with a terrorist.

I have also been a fan of Marcus' for a long time. There is not much that I can add about "Air Marshalls" that hasn't already been said. His first published book "No Other Option" is still my favorite and I have it in both hard copy and electronic. "Air Marshalls" ranks third in my list of favorites right behind Brother's in Arms". He is the only author that I own all of the published books. If his ebooks were also released in hard copy I'd own them.

I've been an avid fan Of Marcus Wynne's books for a long, long time - got the first three in hardcover way back when. I've always found them to be fast paced, authentic in detail, and extremely hard to put down until finished. "Air Marshals" is no exception, and once again Marcus works his magic - another inside look into the special operations community. Highly recommend all of his books!!

I've been a fan of Marcus' ever since he wrote With a Vengance. I even have signed hardcopies!

It was such a treat when he released Air Marshals. It was also my first foray into e-books. At first I was hesitant, but I found I could get just as engrossed on a little four-inch screen as I could on a real book.

Air Marshals scared the s%&t out of me. It was so realistic and gritty. It made me really appreciate the sacrifices the Air Marshals and their support staff undertake on a regular basis. Also, it underscores the monotony they have 99% of the time while still being ready to leap into action for that 1% when it really counts.

Enjoy this and Marcus' other books, but make sure you have plenty of snacks and a comfortable chair because you're not going to want to stop once you begin!

Marcus Wynne's "AIR MARSHALS" is where it all started. Marcus's first novel, the fifth to be published. This novel shows he started with his gritty real world insights, and they just got better and better along the way. In truth, it doesn't matter in what order you read his books. Once you read your first, you'll be hooked and have to read the rest. If you've ever wondered what it would be like to be inside the shadowy world of an Air Marshal, read this book. It shows the all to real and excessive pressures placed on these men and women, while they fight a covert war on terrorism. I did not come away with reservations of flying after reading this book, but rather comfort at knowing these gallant men and women might just be on my next flight protecting me and my fellow passengers. As always, there is no substitute for true experience in an author. Marcus has it in spades.

Air Marshalls is a book, that could only be written by a true industry insider. You cant get any closer in to the minds and internal dialouge of operators than this.I have read this book twice since purchasing it, and I will reread it for the third time this coming week. This book will ruffle some feathers among the "manegment" levels in the industry/agencies.
5 stars, yeah the book could benefit from a bit of editing..but overall the story is immaculate in realism. Tom Clancy and all other writers in this genre, are light yrs from Marcus Wynnes realism...

Review by: M H on July 17, 2011 :
“Air Marshals” is Marcus Wynne’s previously unpublished first novel. Originally written in the late 1990’s it was a prescient foreshadowing of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Marcus deftly combined factual historical events such as the kidnapping and killing of the CIA’s Beirut station chief William Buckley and the rash of aircraft hijackings that had occurred throughout the 1980’s and early 1990’s into a thought provoking thriller. As in his other novels Marcus’ knowledge of the special operations community, weapons and tactics creates an authentic realism rarely seen and brings the action to life.

Marcus’s motley crew of air marshals, and other shooters and looters are undoubtedly modeled on real life men and women who serve our country in a variety of roles. His ability put the reader inside these characters and the situations in the novel is where Marcus shines. One aspect of the book that I appreciated was the depth Marcus gives to the “bad guys.” Too often antagonist characters are one-dimensional and underestimated while the protagonists easily piece the puzzle together. In Air Marshals, Marcus gives us dedicated antagonists with a well thought out tactical plan that were in many ways successful in conducting their operation.

Air Marshals fits well into Marcus Wynne’s universe of books. If you’ve read Marcus’ previous novels give Air Marshals a shot, you’ll enjoy it.

I absolutely loved this book, and can not believe it was written pre 9/11. Amazing detail and some of the best action I've ever read. Wynne is a must read for me, there aren't enough real action writers out there, and MArcus is the cream of the crop.

Anyone who has not read one of Marcus Wynne's books is missing an opportunity to see what really happens in the CT world. His characterizations and technique are spot on. I will continue to read everything he writes, because it is entertaining and accurate.

Having been in the military and working in law enforcement now, I can say that Marcus knows his stuff! The dialogue and mindset of the characters is spot on. The plots are very believable. Air Marshals was written in the 90's when most Americans had forgotten about hijackings. Having worked as an Federal Air Marshal, Marcus has a great deal of credibility. Great action scenes and characters. I could rave on and on about all his books, but this one is special. Could have been a wake call to a lot of people. I have it on my laptop and bought it again from Amazon for my phone. If anyone buys this book and doesnt like it. Drop me a line, I'm curious why. I'd recommend it to everyone I know!

Wynn does it again! Another great thriller torn from today's headines. The author is one of the few subject matter experts who is uniquely qualified to get into the minds and motivations of those brave men and women who valiantly protect our lives around the world. Well done!

Air Marshalls is one of those few action novels that combine realism (in this case to a chilling degree) with actual events. The fact of that the events of 9/11 did not happen until after the book was written, but yet to be published gives Marcus an even greater degree of credibilty.

A must read for fans of action novels. Looking forward to more, keep it up!

I've been a huge fan of Marcus Wynne for years. His writing is tight and accurate, just like a good shot group. I've said before that Marcus is one of the scariest Authors I know, because he really knows that of which he writes.
Air Marshals calls into question the policy and politics behind what is supposed to be keeping us safe. This book hits so close to home that this book is the subject of much discussion at TSA/DHS. This is a page turner all the way to the end... I read it on my son's Kindle and just downloaded it again on my new Laptop.
Solid characters, great story, plot, and stark - harsh action. Get this book and Marcus's other works. And if you've actually read them unlike some of the other reviewers here, you are going to love them. Unless you want a touching and heartwarming story about a knitting circle in Yorkshire, then this book isn't for you.

Air Marshalls is one of the most realistic action novels I have read. It is because the author Marcus Wynne has actually lived the life he writes about, he has been an air marshall and a mercenary. Also, he was a member of the Liverpool bunch of martial artist who could take martial arts to the street. This group was lead by Denis martin and the great Tery O'Neill. A great read.
I would like to se him develope a continuing character such as Jack Reacher, Joe Pike, John Train, etc.

All of Marcus Wynn's books are first rate and realistic. It is hard to believe this book was pre 9/11. It should have been publishes as Dennis Martin suggest. It was prophetic.

I had the privilege of reading the manuscript of "Air Marshals" when it was first written, several years ago. Since then Marcus' books have established him as the favourite of hard-skills operators within the tactical community. I always wanted to see Air Marshals published, as it was based very firmly in a world he knew inside out, that of the terrorist threat to civil aviation, and the technical and tactical difficulties of the task to protect an aircraft under in-flight attack.
In some ways we can sum up Air Marshals as the pre- 9/11 version of "With a Vengeance" Both books kept me enthralled for many an hour.
