The poet throws a keen spotlight on the beauty and romance of Africa that is hidden from the rest of the world by a biased media. More
Losioki Somoire, the author of Portraits of Africa has written these more than forty poems that evoke the emotions of readers and take them on an odyssey across Africa where romance reigns supreme. Losioki hails from the Maasai tribe, an East African community that has held on to their traditional culture in spite of colonialism, Christianity and western education. Losioki himself is almost to graduate from Moi University at Eldoret, Kenya, but this has not blurred his vision of Africa from his conservative cultural background. He is capable of viewing the continent authentically and partaking her beauty in all it entails. The poems are written in an easy and rhythmic poetic language. Some author's friends have thrown in their poems too, and here no poetry can be complete without some Swahili of which there are a few towards the end.
