An intelligent, competent young woman was exiled into a harsh wilderness because her people thought she was cursed and brought them bad luck. They expected her to die but she didn't, and their luck hasn't improved, so now they want to find her and bring her back. She doesn't trust them, and doesn't intend to be "brought back" by anyone.

The characters are believable and well-realized. The environment struck me as a harsh, somewhat nightmarish version of the American Southwest.

I liked this story. I think it would also appeal to a "Young Adult" audience.
