About Laura Taylor, Stacey Platt & Joanna Mackie

Dr Laura Taylor is a Lecturer at the University of Toronto Mississauga where she mainly works with English Language Learners. Her primary research interest is teacher development and she has worked with novice teachers in many parts of the world, including Japan, South Korea, Canada and the UK.

Stacey Platt has worked for the past 14 years across all three U of T campus’s servicing international students in various capacities, including opening UTM’s International Centre. You can ask Stacey about her experiences as a non-native speaker while doing solo international student recruitment trips to Mexico, South Korea and China.

Joanna Mackie has a rich history of enhancing the student experience as an International Student Development Officer at the University of Toronto Mississauga, and a Recruitment Officer and Ombuds Officer at the University of British Columbia. As a dual British-Canadian citizen, she has experienced culture shock first-hand and remains perplexed by Canadians at times.
