Review by: DanaanBartok on Aug. 21, 2015 :
This book improves on "In the Hands of the Unknown" and that's no small achievement The writing is with intimacy, involvment and empathy. The emotions of the characters come pouring of the page. The plot takes twists and turns that cannot be anticipated and we're kept on the edge of the seat from the first chapter. The uncertainty is palpable. I really didn't know what would happen to the characters. Time and time again, I thought to myself "The writer didn't just do that, did she? No way. It...oh...oooh - that was very nicely done!" Other authors would have painted themselves into a corner, but this one manages to deliver an ending that is cathartic and emotionally satisfying, does justice to the narrative (i.e. no cop-outs here!) and manages to support the full weight of the narrative. Also, be warned - there are some really, really creepy scenes in there - this is no book for kids or those who feel that they would be uncomfortable with mature subject matter.
