As someone interested in bugs and wildlife, having visited Trinidad and indeed married a Trinidadian lady, this book has an obvious appeal. McAllister offers an interesting snapshot of Trinidad in the 1980's. Many of the sites visited are still there and little changed. The pace of Americanization of the island and people has been more rapid in recent years, to it's detriment. Mc Allister makes several cutting comments of the 'soul' of Trinidadians that I had not really thought about before. He is generally spot on with his observations and provides a lively, well written tale, dotted with a grasp of the Trini lingo which takes a bit of mastering. Highly recommended to anybody seeking a flavour of the island's life. Especially recommended to the new breed of eco-tourists.
