The story-telling gets 3.5 stars. I'll admit, I was hooked. The only reason it didn't score higher was because there were times when the author used convenient plot devices, and when characters acted out-of-character in order to move the plot along.
However! The writing itself gets 1.5 stars. This story really had a lot of potential. It would have been so much better had there been any sign of editing. There were countless spelling errors and omitted words. There were awkward phrases and too many cliches. There were also too many phrases that needed to be cut down, or cut out completely. For example, I can't count how many times I read, "briefest of moments."
So, because I found the story enjoyable enough to read even through the terrible writing, I'll give it 3 stars over all.
