About Blair MacKinnon

I started writing stories seriously when I completed an online Creative Writing course at FutureLearn (https://www.futurelearn.com/) in autumn 2014. The course was brilliant and a lot of fun (I highly recommend it) and during it I discovered my literary muse Henley Bear (that's him in the picture with me). I live in a quiet village in rural South Norfolk, England with my wife and constant inspiration Manda, and Henley. My interests include cosmology, chaos theory, quantum physics, spirituality and spiritual places, the tao of physics, SETI, cultural history & mythology, citizen science and photography so I expect these themes will appear in my stories (one of them is Henley's story which he is rather chuffed about).
I am currently writing a novel length follow-up to And My Heart Beats titled Phoenix Rising. It tells the story that goes before, during and after the events of And My Heart Beats.

Review by: E Scott on March 14, 2018 :
A short story of a girl preparing to take up her fallen brother's sword to fight the mysterious "Beast" which lurks in the forest.

Perhaps a little lacking in physical description, it is still peppered with fantastical cultural and spiritual references which gives a flavour of the mystical nature of the world Nireti inhabits. As we listen in to the thoughts of Nireti as she braces herself for the fight to come, we learn subtle details both about her personal experience and that of the world around her which introduce a lot of concepts without being overly confusing.

While it may not be a sweeping epic, it is a nice short story lyrically told.
