DV Berkom is the USA Today best selling author of two action-packed thriller series featuring strong female leads: Leine Basso and Kate Jones. Her love of creating resilient, kick-ass women characters stems from a lifelong addiction to reading spy novels, mysteries, and thrillers, and longing to find the female equivalent within those pages.
Raised in the Midwest, she earned a BA in political science from the University of Minnesota and promptly moved to Mexico to live on a sailboat. Several years and many adventures later, she wrote her first novel and was hooked. Bad Spirits, the first Kate Jones thriller, was published as an online serial in 2010 and was immediately popular with eBook fans. Dead of Winter, Death Rites, and Touring for Death soon followed before she began the far grittier Leine Basso series in early 2012 with Serial Date.
D.V. currently lives in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mark, and several imaginary characters who like to tell her what to do. Her most recent books include A Killing Truth, Cargo, The Body Market, Vigilante Dead, A One Way Ticket to Dead, and Yucatán Dead.

Every Leine Basso story gets better and better. Her relationship with LAPD detective, Santa Jensen, has grown while becoming more complex as they deal with issues their two professions create between them.
In the Body Market, DV has ratcheted up the intensity level while shining a light on the dark world of the sex trade. DV's stories take on the topics of the day and give the reader a devilishly exciting roller coaster of a ride.

I've read all the Leine Basso stories and have enjoyed seeing how her character has changed over time. Cargo brings back many of the same characters, like Leine's on again, off again lover, mostly on again, Santiago Jensen. His former partner is back as is his buxom, built like a brick outhouse new partner, Bodacious Brady.
Cargo has Leine delving into the dark world of human trafficking, not just the sex trade so much in the news but the indentured slave traffic that has desperate people lured to this dark world with promises of a better life. In the case Leine is working, she is searching for the kidnapped daughter of an American.
The story also touches on the horrific practice of poaching in Africa and how the money can not only go to the poacher but in the end to terrorists. This is a "ripped from the headlines" fast-paced, well presented book that holds the reader's attention from page 1 to the end.
