About Erin Chase

Erin (Thompson) Chase grew up in Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada, where she still lives. Erin began writing at an early age, and even though they were simply silly poems or school requirements, she loved it! This passion continued into adulthood, when she decided to try her hand at writing full novels. Erin’s debut novel, BEHIND PALACE WALLS, took several years to write and perfect. Since it’s an historical fiction set in Ancient Egypt, Erin knew she must go to Egypt and explore the pyramids, temples, and lay of the land for herself. She was able to tour the country for 12 days in 2010, before the Arab Spring.

BEHIND PALACE WALLS is available now in electronic and paperback formats. It has received only positive reviews from beta readers, with several inquiries as to when a sequel will be released (it’s in the works).

Erin is extremely excited to share her work with the rest of the world, and hopes you will be intrigued by the time period, captivated by the plot, cheer for the protagonist, and boo the antagonist as she did!

Sheshamun, the adopted daughter of peasants, unexpectedly finds herself recommended to the Egyptian Pharaoh’s harem. Finding life in the harem unlike her dream of living a royal life, and forbidden to see her parents, she escapes from the palace. Of course, she is found and brought back to be sentenced by the Pharaoh to a slave camp, escaping a death sentence with the intervention of the Royal Wife. This experience provides the opportunity for Sheshamun to mature, gain confidence in herself and find support from the friends she makes. Sheshamun’s story kept me engaged with the mystery, suspense and romance of the story through the historical lens of ancient Egypt.
I have long enjoyed fiction about ancient Egypt and this was no exception. In contrast to some other fiction writers of ancient Egypt, Erin Chase provides us a glimpse not only into the luxuries of royal living but we also see the humble life of peasants and the spare existence of those condemned to a slave camp. It is a long book, however. I would encourage the author to reduce the length, as well as more closely follow the advice offered by C.J. Lakin in her blog “Live, Write, Thrive”. Reduce some of the narrative description which is not necessary to move the story forward.

A talented storyteller, Erin Chase effortlessly transports the reader to another time and place rich with history and enhanced by adventure, mystery, and romance. Join Sheshamun as she comes of age along this fascinating and often unexpected journey. Looking forward to discover what awaits our protagonist and each of the characters in the much anticipated sequel, The King's Court.
