Without saying to much to spoil the plot, Ben is indeed put to the test with all sides playing against the middle and that right where Ben is put to tease out the bad guys like live bait in a trap.
His job to draw out the sleepers in the ISIS plot to inflict as much death and destruction as they can achieve and Ben is holding the bait a young industrial chemist that is crucial to their plan.
