Rated 3.15/5 based on 13 reviews
Fifteen proposals for a new constitution and constitutional convention that would end the power of the 1%, guarantee voting rights, limit corporate power, guarantee privacy, and end American colonialism and wars far sooner. Ending Citizens United, or passing just one amendment will not be enough. Protests or voting will not be enough. A new constitution of, by, and for the people, NOW! More

Al Carroll was banned by Quora - Even on hyper-partisan DailyKOS his banal rhetoric falls flat. I enjoy his sock puppet reviews of himself though. Carroll spends so much time talking about himself in third person - I wonder if he even knows who he is? Wow.

This guy is like a joke - but not funny. If Fake Indian Hunter l Carroll wrote as many books as he does sock puppet reviews... he would have more books nobody will ever read. Can I give 0 stars?

I'm impressed. I'd read and loved his previous book Presidents Body Counts. Glad I found his other books.

Most of his proposals are common sense and will be supported by just about everybody. End Electoral College, publicly funded elections, making election day a holiday, right to privacy. He doesn't think ending Citizens United will go far enough and makes a pretty strong case a new constitution is needed (keeping the best of the old though.)

A lot of what he says will be controversial. No balanced budget, no term limits which he says have failed. Limiting idle wealth as puts it, meaning no huge obscene mansions, you have to give it to charity or invest it or it get confiscated. I'm sure right wingers will call him a Marxist, but I remember he's a big time Catholic social justice guy.

Sure to get you talking about what direction our country should go. Very well written and eloquent. The racists who harass him should lay off, because I don't think he ever slows down to even notice them. Anyway he's more accomplished than they ever will be.

I found the book to be extremely well written and thoughtful. I came over from DailyKos where he has quite a following, as well as Democratic Underground, Quora (where someone compared him to Zinn and Chomsky), and of course the great HUMAN RIGHTS FORUM over at NAFPS where they've been fighting the good fight for decades against cultural appropriation, protection of sacred sites, defending against cults, anti Native racists and exploiters like the Rainbow Tribe and Scientology.

Basically the proposals are:
Get money out of politics.
End the Electoral College.
The public decides when to go to war.
End inequality.
End colonialism.
Apologies and sovereignty for Native peoples, of which he is one of the most respected leaders.
Constitutional conventions by intellectuals, not politicians.

Who but an elitist or a troll could argue with that? It's obvious "Lynn Manning" is a bigot because the name is an insulting homophobic take on a national hero, Peyton Manning.

The author posted this 'book' content as a series of diary entries on Daily Kos. These are some of the comments:

"The good news is that this diary author receives little attention here for his proposals. The bad news is that he is a college teacher." - VClib

"I'm alarmed that you teach college students." RichinPA

"For a supposed history professor you are incredibly politically naive." Grannus

"Some of this is just plain ridiculous... Have you thought out any of this stuff through? " thestructureguy

"Al - I find your proposals for amending the Constitution very frightening and am so glad they have little or no public support, even here at DKOS."
