Review by: Martin Foster on July 7, 2016 :
The Portrait more Gothic than horror. Like the governess in Henry James' The Turn of the Screw, the main character seems to be unraveling, but it's not clear to the reader whether it's insanity, demonic possession, or something else. I enjoyed reading this book and would recommend to those who like their horror without the gore and endless cliffhangers.

The reader liked the story. The reader found the over-use of the author, the artist, and the dreamer annoying. The reader still gave 5 stars. The reader will read other books by this author. The reader couldn't write a book if she tried so please take the readers criticism with a grain of salt. The reader thanks you.

Review by: Tina E Williams on March 15, 2016 :
Victoria Frost has been a dutiful daughter to her parents her whole life. When they parish in a plane crash, going on their 35th Anniversary, Victoria is orphaned. She take a hiatus from her high-paying power attorney job to mourn their loss. She then comes to the realization that she is free to pursue her dreams as an author so she quits her job. She has been haunted all of her life by a beautiful woman in a portrait. So she sets her path to pouring out all that she knows to bring her character life. Instead it changes her life drastically and in the most peculiar way.
Evelyn Chartres weaves her words and prose in such a way that you will find yourself mesmerized with her characters. I always felt a sense o dread and the macabre, but I couldn't pinpoint where or which direction it would come from, it was a mystery. A mystery that I desperately wanted to find out. I was on the edge and captivated by the gothic scenes, I found myself reading like a fiend to figure out the outcome...What a shocking outcome! Awesome, I would recommend you read for yourself. A definite five star!
