About Katriona Furey

Katriona May Furey was born in the seaside town of Bray in county Wicklow, Ireland, where she spent her early childhood.

At the age of seven, she moved with her family to Dublin, where she attended a convent school.
Her father, Colin, was employed at a glass works in the city, where he worked until his retirement.

On completing school, Katriona surprised her family by joining Colin at the glass works, rather than studying, or taking a more comventional secretarial job. Glass is in her blood, she says.

It was there, that she met her husband, Nikolai, a Russian citizen, spending some time working abroad.
She accompanied him back to his home town of Volgagrad, the former Stalingrad, where she was at once strongly impressed by the history of that city.

She began writing soon after the birth of their first daughter, Vera, although she had no idea of publishing her work. With Nikolai's encouragement, however, she has taken up serious writing.

She is still a keen collector of glass and crystal, and loves to work with her husband in the his own small glass crafts factory, where they make fine and exclusive items for the house hold, and tourist trade.
