"There's one thing I can say for my father. He has excellent taste in women,” Jace uttered the words in a cool tone.
To Josie his words were an insulting compliment. She would have loved to tell him the truth and watch his reaction, but something held her back. He could antagonize her with a few chosen words, but she still refused to say a thing. Watching the expressions swiftly race across his face, she knew his words were genuine. He liked what he saw too much.
"If you don't mind, I'd appreciate it if you'd leave.”
"This will be the last story ever printed about you and my father. My mother has suffered enough just knowing about you."
"I'm sorry for her,” she admitted softly.
His head jerked back with a start. "Don't tell me you're a liar, Ms. Lopez."
"I'm not a liar!" Her gaze followed his long strides eating up the distance between them.
His next action surprised her. He jerked her against his chest knocking the air from her lungs. Gazing up into his half closed eyes, a helpless sensation suddenly seized her. She hadn’t prepared herself for his warm lips claiming hers. It happened so suddenly, there was no way she could stop him. When his mouth applied pressure and gained entry into hers, she could feel the movement of his unrelenting tongue, probing deeply. While he kissed her, she felt his hands moving across the silky robe that covered her body. Instead of objecting, a new round of excitement raged through her at the contact. Her head felt so dizzy over the intense arousal he created in her that instead of pushing him away, she remained in his arms, wanting more.
Eventually, he released her with a suddenness that surprised her. There was no explaining his next action. She watched him stalk across the room and slam the door behind him. He left her standing in the middle of the room feeling befuddled over what had taken place.
Jace Cantrell was her half-brother, and the kiss he'd given her wasn't in the least brotherly. Josie felt shame mount in her over the way she'd responded to him so easily. She'd enjoyed every second in his arms and how his passionate kiss had set her on fire with wanting more. Why had she let him have his way with her, without protesting? She just didn’t have any answers over her strange behavior.
By the time she lie in bed later that night, she decided she was being too sensitive when it came to Jace Cantrell.
His overpowering personality must be what made her feel she could be attracted to him. The foolishness of her train of thought brought a smile to her lips. Before drifting off, she blotted all thoughts of her half-brother from her mind.
