About Ken Coleman

Ken Coleman is a Detroit-based author and historian. The former senior editor at the Michigan Chronicle and press secretary for U.S. Reps. Gary Peters and Brenda Lawrence of Michigan has written and published three books:

• On This Day: African-American Life in Detroit

• Million Dollars Worth of Nerve: Twenty-one People Who Helped to Power Black Bottom, Paradise Valley and Detroit’s Lower East Side

• Soul on Air: Blacks Who Helped to Define Radio in Detroit

Coleman hosts a weekly history segment on Detroit Public Television’s American Black Journal. It airs each Sunday at 9:30 a.m.

A former Michigan Democratic Party communications director and current precinct delegate, Coleman resides in Detroit’s Elmwood Park community with his wife, Kim Trent, a member of the Wayne State University Board of Governors, and son, Jackson Coleman.
