About Rik Johnston

Rik Johnston grew up in a small town in rural Idaho, dreaming of adventures in far off places. Instead of visiting those places, he created the places he dreamed of and the people who inhabited them on paper. Having been raised in the rich tapestry of the 70's and 80's, Rik was inspired by the great Science Fiction epics that were a product of the time and they served as an inspiration for the stories you can find here.

The Chronicles of John Alkali began as a series of short stories written in his teenage years, and published in his local newspaper in 1988. The current novels are a culmination and the evolution of those stories, brought to fruition through years of development.

When reading this, it reminded me of Homer's ancient storytelling, which fits for the story. There tended to be repeated phrases and such, but beyond that the story itself is very creative. Solid groundwork for what's to follow

The unfamiliar names and nature of the writing make it a bit cumbersome to read, though it is well worth it in the end, as the author clearly shows a knack for world-building and creating well-thought religious, political, and social structures. It shows great promise for the works coming after that are going to be based on the framework set forth by this book.

I was browsing smashwords and found this title somewhere, so I decided to give it a shot and downloaded the sample. I have to admit that I wasn't prepared for what I had read, its so thick and heady in its mythology that I felt compelled to read more. I'm not sure where the author is going with this story, but what I read is an excellent foundation to built on. I have acquired the rest of this, and am looking forward to finishing it in the next few days.

The book itself is very interesting and it draws you in just from the first paragraph. If you like other tribes of all kinds, then you will love this book. No doubt about it. I encourage you to download this!!!
