D.R. Avery has been a journalist, editor, college professor, private detective, free lance writer, blues musician, and child of several other borderline savory pursuits. He holds a B.S. in Journalism from the University of Florida and an M.A. and PhD. in Journalism and Mass Communication from Southern Illinois University. The award-winning author of over 80 freelance and scholarly publications and invited presentations, many of which are concerned with history and the Civil Rights Movement, his background prepared him to research and write "Mystery at Bristol Square," in which the Civil Rights Movement and the riots of the 1960s figure prominently.
He lives with his wife and the deer and the bear in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
