About Kathleen Pennell

Kathleen Pennell moved to a small farm when she was eleven years old. Stepping out of the car on the first day, she saw a chestnut horse grazing in the pasture, What a miracle! It was love at first sight. Red was a retired circus horse. He nodded his head when I asked if he was a "good boy". He'd learned that trick at the circus. Of course, his trainer always rewarded him with a cube of sugar, so I needed to have one handy when I walked out to the barn. Although, his very favorite trick was to canter underneath low-hanging branches in the pasture. Naughty boy! I soon learned to keep a steady hand on the reins.
After I graduated from college, I married and had children, but never outgrew my deep love of horses. My son, Steve, was never interested in horses. But, my daughter, Lauren, has ridden since she was five years old. Twenty-five years later and she still rides nearly everyday. Now, In fact, Lauren graduated from art school and is the person who illustrates the cover for my books.
Because I was a teacher and loved interacting with my students, I would love to hear from any of my horse-loving readers.
